Tips for making the most of the grad fair
Plan your sessions
Review the agenda in advance and decide which sessions are most relevant to you — whether you’re exploring graduate school options, learning how to apply or preparing for next steps after receiving an offer.
Make a program list
Write down the graduate programs you’d like to connect with during the tabling fair. This ensures you’ll have time to speak with each representative and gather the information you need.
Explore beyond your first choice
Keep an open mind. Visit programs outside of your initial area of interest — you may discover a degree option or career path you hadn’t considered.
Engage with college representatives
Prepare thoughtful questions for the college panel and for representatives at their tables. Examples include:
- What makes an applicant stand out for this program?
- What types of research, projects or experiences strengthen an application?
- How do graduates from this program apply their degree in the workforce?
- How are GPA or test scores considered in the admission process?
What to bring
Bring something to take notes with — your phone, a tablet, or a notebook and pen — so you don’t miss key details.
Pro tip: When speaking with program representatives, stay engaged and present. Put devices away so you can focus on the conversation and make a strong impression.
